Assistant Project Manager

SUMMARY

The position of Assistant Project Manager has been established to support Project Managers with coordinating technical and administrative functions in support of electrical construction projects. This role provides exposure to all phases of project delivery—from preconstruction through closeout—helping to ensure schedules, budgets, documentation, and vendor coordination are executed successfully. The position serves as a key growth opportunity toward becoming a Project Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Coordination

  • Assist Project Managers with project schedules, milestones, and manpower coordination.
  • Review project plans and specifications for completeness and accuracy.
  • Coordinate subcontractor scheduling and collaborate with vendors to ensure milestones are met.
  • Attend project meetings and assist in documenting action items and follow-ups.
  • Provide administrative and field coordination support across all project phases.

RFIs and Submittals

  • Manage and track RFIs from field personnel; prepare and submit as needed.
  • Ensure timely resolution of RFIs with design teams and Project Managers.
  • Build, maintain, and manage submittals and submittal logs.
  • Review supplier and subcontractor submittals and shop drawings for compliance with project documents.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure accuracy and completeness of submittals before submission.
  • Maintain supporting documentation to ensure project compliance and timely approvals.

Procurement and Materials Management

  • Support procurement of key project materials such as light fixtures and switchgear.
  • Perform minor “spot and dot” take-offs to verify material quantities.
  • Assist in preparing bills of material and coordinating purchase orders.
  • Track and confirm deliveries for accuracy and timeliness.

Project Closeout

  • Assist with project punch lists, coordinating with field leadership to ensure timely completion.
  • Participate in final walk-throughs and ensure proper closeout documentation.
  • Support warranty, O&M manual preparation, and turnover activities.

Change Orders and Documentation

  • Process field-generated change orders, assisting with review, pricing, and customer submission.
  • Maintain accurate project files, budgets, and reports for leadership review.

EDUCATION, SKILL, EXPERIENCE OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience (minimum 2 years).
  • Experience in electrical construction or project management strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Proficiency in project management software (Procore, MS Project) preferred.
  • Experience with Bluebeam or similar PDF markup software preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
  • Valid California Driver’s License required.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Salary range: $60,000 – $110,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Standard office and jobsite environment. The individual will frequently be required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear. Occasionally, may lift boxes or materials (typically 20 pounds or less).
