Estimator 1 (Junior Estimator)

SUMMARY:

The position of Estimator 1 (Junior Estimator) has been established to assist in the preparation of accurate bids and proposals for projects. The Junior Estimator will work under the guidance of senior estimating personnel to review project plans, perform take-offs, and solicit vendor and subcontractor pricing to develop comprehensive cost estimates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Estimating

  • Assist Estimator(s)/Lead Estimator(s) & Manager as directed.
  • Prepare cost estimates by performing quantity take-offs and cost analysis.
  • Participate in meetings with the estimating team to review project bids and identify risk factors.
  • Review bid invitations, assess project scope, and help generate RFIs to clarify project details.
  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, and proposals to determine project requirements.
  • Solicit and analyze quotes from vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Assist in managing estimate folders to ensure all bid information is complete, organized, and accurate.
  • Support the estimating team in preparing bid summaries, scope clarifications, and proposal documentation.
  • Perform document control tasks, including downloading documents, breaking out drawings, slipsheeting drawings, setting up project folder structures, and organizing estimating files.
  • Attend job walks as needed.

Business Development

  • Develop relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure access to competitive pricing.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, market conditions, and new estimating techniques.
  • Assist in tracking bid results and following up on outstanding proposals.

EDUCATION, SKILL, EXPERIENCE OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in estimating or electrical fieldwork preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of estimating software; experience with Accubid or similar programs is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam or other PDF markup software.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • Salary range: $65,000 - $85,000 per year.
  • Car allowance and gas card provided.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Standard office environment. The individual will frequently be required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear. Occasionally may have to lift boxes containing project documents or materials, typically 20 pounds or less.
