SUMMARY:
The Estimator 2 (Mid-Level Estimator) at National Electric Works is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids for electrical projects. This role involves analyzing project requirements, performing detailed take-offs, and collaborating with vendors and subcontractors to ensure comprehensive cost estimates. The Estimator 2 will work under the guidance of senior estimating personnel and is expected to handle projects of moderate complexity independently.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Estimating
- Assist Lead Estimator(s) & Manager as directed.
- Supervise Jr Estimator(s) as needed; confirm accuracy (spot checks) and enforce estimating standards and processes.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates (mid-large, complex jobs) by performing quantity take-offs and cost analysis.
- Review bid invitations, assess project scope, and generate RFIs to clarify project details.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, and proposals to determine project requirements.
- Solicit and analyze quotes from vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
- Assemble estimate folders to ensure all bid information is complete and accurate.
- Prepare bid summaries, scope clarifications, and proposal documentation.
- Participate in team estimate reviews as required.
- Perform document control tasks, including downloading documents, breaking out drawings, slip-sheeting drawings, setting up project folder structures, and organizing estimating files.
- Consult with owners/primes on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc.
- Provide support with project change orders as needed.
- Assist in mentoring/training new hire employees and Jr Estimator(s) on fundamentals of estimating.
- Attend job walks as needed.
Business Development
- Develop relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure access to competitive pricing.
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends, market conditions, and new estimating techniques.
- Assist in tracking bid results and following up on outstanding proposals.
EDUCATION, SKILL, EXPERIENCE OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in estimating or electrical construction.
- Proficiency in estimating software; experience with Accubid or similar programs is preferred.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam or other PDF markup software.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and contract documents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- Salary range: $85,000 - $120,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Standard office environment. The individual will frequently be required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear. Occasionally may have to lift boxes containing project documents or materials, typically 20 pounds or less.
